Introduction
Chalmers
Family Cork
Welcome to the Chalmers Family Cork and all the
related branches. This is the story of a family that journeyed from the once bleak
landscape of Banff and Aberdeen Shires in Scotland in the 1600s to the moist
valleys of Cork in Ireland. A journey in which I have learned of the incredible
spirit of a People who laboured from dawn to dusk each day to clear the marshes
and stones from the vast area of the North East Corner of Scotland. This
genealogy is, in a small way, a thank you to them, men women and children, my,
and others' ancestors - a remembrance of their life's struggle to make the land
fruitful and productive as it is today and pass on a better life for their
descendants.
Also, my forebears in East Cork in
Ireland, who suffered the terrible Famine, and especially those whose life was
cut short. This family genealogy is an ongoing research by the compiler which
started almost since 1966.
Some of the earlier names have not been
proven or not certain, and I would welcome suggestions or additions or help in
any way.
Sources: The main sources of my research are
the microfilms, of the original records of each parish in Scotland, also the
census records, MIs. and others. I have photocopies from the films of all my
direct ancestors and many of other ancestors too. After 1855 I have official
extracts of direct ancestors. With regard to Ireland, my main sources are the
actual parish records concerned and civil registers.
My Thanks to all those whose help was
courtous at all times and to those who responded to my queries and gave me
valuable documentation, especially:-
All local Ministers and Parish Priests
whose help was crucial.
